Klay Thompson’s first season with the Dallas Mavericks didn’t go as planned. When he moved to Texas last offseason, he joined a team that was fresh from an NBA Finals appearance, but the team didn’t look the part since trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last February.

Instead, the Dallas Mavericks are 10th in the Western Conference table with a 39-43 record and will have to go through the play-in tournament to qualify for the playoffs.
They will face the ninth-seeded Sacramento Kings this Wednesday at the Golden 1 Center. If they win that one, they will take on the loser of the seven vs. eight matchup.

Klay Thompson failed to show up in his last play-in appearance, going 0-for-10 from the field against the Sacramento Kings as a member of the Golden State Warriors. He’ll look to avoid the same outcome this week.
Dallas Mavericks News: Klay Thompson receives a good grade for the first season in Texas
Klay Thompson finished the 2024-25 regular season averaging 14.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists on 41/39/91 shooting clips across 72 starts. The Dallas Mavericks gunner felt it was good enough for his lofty standards.

“My season individually… I’d give it a B,” Thompson told reporters via ClutchPoints’ Joey Mistretta. “I thought I shot the ball decent, you know, nearly 40 (percent) from three. I’m really grateful to play in 72 games and be a consistent presence in the lineup. That’s something that I can really hang my hat on.”
“I thought Klay had a really good season for us,” Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd added. “I think he played 70 games, if not more (he played 72). Has shot the ball, has been a leader in that locker room through all the things that have taken place. And then we’re gonna need his leadership on Wednesday.”
