The current state of the NBA Finals is enough to tell everyone that the Dallas Mavericks are on the back foot. They weren’t able to handle the Boston Celtics’ strong performances the first three games and find themselves in a desperate situation.
The Mavs finally got on the board thanks to an inspired team performance that shut down the Celtics, 122-84. Of course, the series is still far from over for the Mavs as they now head to the TD Garden to try and win another tough game to extend the series to a Game 6.
Kyrie Irving has been a key contributor for the Mavericks throughout the postseason. While his performance during the Finals’ first two games doomed the Mavs to lose the first two games, he bounced back in the following games to keep the Mavs competitive.
He understands more than anyone the kind of pressure a player gets from playing at the TD Garden, and he took the time to remind everyone what this means for his teammates and anyone who would want to suit up for Boston in the near future.
Dallas Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving warns future Celtics players about the home crowd
Uncle Drew only played two seasons in New England, but he believes that he’s gotten enough experience of what it’s like playing in Boston to have a proper take on the organization.
Per masslive.com’s Souichi Terada:
“The community is what makes the Celtics great here, the Boston pandemonium,” Irving said. “That’s what makes this space so loud and so special, and they take pride in it. If any player is coming here, getting drafted here, thinking about coming here for free agency, getting traded here, I just think do your homework and make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into. That’s something I could offer.”
One could look at Kyrie’s comments as sincere praise to Boston’s sporting culture. Not a lot of fanbases are as passionate as New England, so it can be a delight to play for such a vocal crowd.
However, another take at his statement is that the Celtics crowd can become overbearing for their players. It’s well-known that Irving didn’t have the best time during his short stint in Boston Green, and people who openly support Boston haven’t been shy with their thoughts on Irving.
Irving is playing a solid series so far, averaging 21.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists a game. With the Mavs finally clicking together, fans can expect Kai to perform even better to one-up a crowd that’s been openly hostile to him.
