Kyrie Irving was on a heater on Sunday, as the Dallas Mavericks star guard felt unstoppable on the court against the Denver Nuggets in Mile High City.
Irving rocked the Nuggets with an incredible offensive performance, scoring 43 points on 17-for-22 shooting from the field and 6-for-8 from behind the arc. Irving also had five rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block in 35 minutes.
Dallas Mavericks’ loss to the Denver Nuggets spoil Kyrie Irving’s incredible outing
Despite Irving’s scoring outburst, the Mavericks fell prey to the Nuggets to the tune of a 122-120 score. The loss was a painful waste of Irving’s big game, especially one that helped him complete a wild feat last seen in the NBA 20 years ago.

Irving put the Mavs ahead by two points after he drained a 15-foot bucket with 1:39 remaining in regulation but the Nuggets scored the next four points to secure the victory. Nikola Jokic’s putback with 48.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter tied the game at 120-120 before Michael Porter Jr. sank a 14-footer Denver ahead for good with 6.1 seconds on the game clock. Irving had a chance to be a hero but his 3-point attempt missed, as the Mavericks failed to buy a bucket in their last possession.
Dallas dropped to 5-5 after back-to-back losses to the Phoenix Suns at home and the Nuggets on the road. Irving and the Mavs will look to end their slump on Tuesday against the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco.
