Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki is set to reunite with his former teammate, Steve Nash. On Tuesday, the Phoenix Suns icon agreed to sign a deal with Amazon Prime for their NBA broadcast that will start in the 2025-26 season. According to reports, Nash will be part of the broadcast crew for the studio and game coverage that will begin in October.

Nash will join Nowitzki, Taylor Rooks and six-time All-Star Blake Griffin. According to The Stein Line, sources said that the two-time MVP isn’t looking to use his media career as a path to return to coaching. Aside from his gig with Amazon Prime, he took on the vacant hosting job for the “Mind The Game” podcast. was left by JJ Redick after he took the head coaching position for the Los Angeles Lakers.

After it was confirmed on Tuesday, Nowtizki went to X (formerly Twitter) with his reaction as he’ll get to work with his close friend for a second time.

“Now I have to carry this guy again like i did over 25 years ago…” Nowitzki posted on the social media platform.

The two former All-Stars were teammates with the Dallas Mavericks from 1998 to 2004. Together, they had significant success and emerged as stars. During the 2003 postseason, Nash and Nowitzki led the Mavericks to the Western Conference finals. However, they lost to the San Antonio Spurs in six games.

In 2004, Nash left and returned to Phoenix. Even though they were apart, the two former teammates remained close. In 2018, the Canadian former star was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame and Nowitzki was present.

In 2023, it was the German star’s turn, and Nash was one of the people who inducted him into the Hall.

The 2024-25 season was a surprise for the Dallas Mavericks. They traded Luka Doncic, their best player, to the Los Angeles Lakers after he led them to the NBA Finals last year. Additionally, the team suffered various injuries, including a season-ending ACL tear on Kyrie Irving’s knee. Following that, the Mavericks struggled and missed the playoffs this year.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that Nowitzki, the greatest player to play for the franchise, is turned off.

“Dirk is completely turned off by this franchise. I’ll have more on that coming out once they’re eliminated, probably Thursday morning,” MacMahon said.

Nowitzki’s first post after the blockbuster deal shows his loyalty to the Dallas Mavericks. However, he showed his support for Doncic, who was blindsided by the management.

“I will always be a Mav for life, but had to come support my guy 77 @luka7doncic in the first game of his new chapter!” the 2011 Finals MVP posted.
