It’s an exciting time to be a Dallas Mavericks fan right now.
Not only are the Mavs back in the playoffs, but Luka may have the best team he’s played in since joining the team in 2018. While the Boston Celtics are no slouches, they’re only four games away from winning Championship Banner #2.
Luka understands that Kyrie Irving has a lot to do with the Mavs’ postseason success. Kai is not only a great basketball player, but his immense playoff experience will prove to be essential for group of guys who haven’t experienced the landscape of the Finals yet.

Doncic understands the importance of Uncle Drew’s experience in their upcoming series against Boston and jokingly notes about it in the post-game press conference.
Luka Doncic jokes about Kyrie Irving after the Dallas Mavericks advance to the NBA Finals

Doncic discussed plenty of things during his team’s 124-103 win over the Timberwolves. One of the topics he addressed is the age of the roster and their lack of experience.
He addressed the question by making a light-hearted jab at his 32-year-old teammate:
Luka got jokes for Kyrie 🤣 pic.twitter.com/Y4rxnlQ9aX

The answer was something that caught the press off guard and generated chuckles from the media. However, fans who want to read into his statement can see a hidden message underneath Luka’s comment.
The Mavericks are a fairly young roster, with many of their players in their 20s. While five players who have played for the Mavericks this season are above thirty, most of the players Jason Kidd uses this postseason are still approaching their physical peak.

More importantly, no one on the Mavericks roster has as much experience playing in the Finals as Kai. More than his postseason averages (22.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists), they will need his leadership to take down a Boston Celtics squad whose stars have played in the Finals in 2022.
The Finals will be tough for Luka and the Dallas Mavericks, but they have a serious shot at the title as long as Kyrie keeps the roster tuned in for the Finals.
