Ever since Dallas Mavericks‘ general manager, Nico Harrison, traded away Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, things have changed in the franchise. There have been massive protests from fans calling for the resignation of Harrison for his decision to trade away their beloved superstar. Throughout all this, all that minority owner Mark Cuban has been able to do is look at the bright side by saying a light joke at an event with Bill Gates.
Recently, the previous majority owner of the organization had the chance to speak his honest thoughts on what happened to the superstar he sought to protect. Firstly, he was asked about what he and his son felt when they heard the news about Doncic.
“Yeah, of course,” Cuban said when asked if we was about about the Doncic deal.
According to Cuban, if the Mavericks wanted to trade Doncic, they should’ve gotten a better deal. The Shark Tank investor wished the franchise could’ve gotten at least four first-round picks.

Unfortunately for the team, Dallas only received a 2029 first-round pick with Anthony Davis and Max Christie.
“If the Mavs are going to trade Luka, that’s one thing, just get a better deal. No disrespect to Anthony Davis…If we had gotten 4 Unprotected No. 1’s and Anthony Davis and Max Christie, this would be a different conversation.”

However, when asked if he would’ve ever made the deal to trade Doncic, Cuban did his best to avoid the question. The famed businessman went on to explain what the biggest challenge for the Mavericks is moving forward.
“There’s nobody who’s really outgoing to communicate. It’s not so much what you do, it’s how you communicate why you do what you do.”
Mychal Thompson gives his honest take on the Dallas Mavericks

Mychal Thompson, the father of Klay Thompson, gave his thoughts on the 2024-25 NBA season for the Dallas Mavericks. His son left the team where he found success (the Golden State Warriors) and joined the Mavericks last summer. According to the former Lakers big man, the 6-foot-6 shooter had high hopes for the Dallas team as they made it to the Finals last season.
However, with the Doncic trade and several other injuries to their stars, Thompson believes his son is stuck in purgatory.
“Klay is stuck in purgatory right now, and if they hang on to the 10th seed, that will be the story of the year in the NBA. I think they’re going to lose ten in a row,” Thompson said.

The Mavericks are 10th in the West with a 32-31 record, and their chances of making it back to the Finals are getting slimmer.
