To say that the Dallas Mavericks got a coup of a signing in Klay Thompson is an understatement. Thompson may have lost a bit of explosiveness due to the multiple injuries he sustained in his career, but he’s still one of the better shooters the NBA has seen.
The team knows that they can count on the four-time NBA champion to give his all for the team because he feels the appreciation the Mavs have for what he can bring to the squad. This urged him to make a bold promise to the rest of the league that he would be back to his usual ways next season.

Klay’s arrival brings all sorts of good things for the Mavericks’ hopes of making it back to the NBA Finals and avenging their loss to the Boston Celtics.
There’s one more thing about Thompson’s move to the Mavs that goes under the radar but also makes a huge impact on the team’s long-term future.
Klay Thompson’s Dallas Mavericks move destroys notion that the team is not a big destination for big-name players

Noah Weber of The Smoking Cuban makes an argument that the Dallas Mavericks are no longer the team big-name players avoid due to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving being on the team:
Thompson talked about Dallas’ young talent, playstyle, and how they treat their players as reasons that he signed with the Mavericks, and after back-to-back years of signing Kyrie Irving and Thompson, Dallas is clearly turning into a spot that star players want to play in.
Mavs fans have been used to star players using Dallas for leverage in free agency and typically not signing with them, but Thompson and Irving’s decision to stay is slowly changing that narrative for the better.
Thompson will be bringing offensive firepower to the Mavs next season. In his final year for the Golden State Warriors, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists 43.2% shooting and 38.7% from deep. While these numbers aren’t satisfactory for a second option, he’ll be a great third weapon who will ease the pressure on Luka and Uncle Drew.
