Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic is not having a great time of late. His team is down 3-0 in the 2024 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics and he’s also hearing a ton of criticism over his defense and behavior on the court.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN ripped Doncic after Dallas’ 106-99 Game 3 loss to the Celtics last Wednesday over the way the Mavs guard has been behaving in the finals. Many others share the same opinion. But not Doncic’s former Mavericks teammate and current New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson.
Jalen Brunson comes to the defense of his former Dallas Mavericks teammate

“Yes, it’s unfair, Brunson recently told Taylor Rooks about the harsh things being said about Doncic of late.
“It’s an emotional game. Everyone is like ‘You’re a grown man, you need to act like one.’ This is what everyone in this league has worked for, an opportunity like that. And sometimes emotions get the best of you,” Brunson added.
Jalen Brunson to Taylor Rooks on if the Luka Dončić criticism has been unfair:
“Yes, it’s unfair… It’s an emotional game. Everyone is like ‘You’re a grown man, you need to act like one.’ This is what everyone in this league has worked for, an opportunity like that. And… pic.twitter.com/nLOAv4LJFh

Doncic and Brunson played together for the Mavericks for four seasons before the latter got lured by the Knicks with a four-year, $104 million contract back in 2022. Even though he’s no longer on the same team with Doncic, Brunson surely knows a lot about the Slovenian superstar and he clearly understands where his former teammate is coming from.

Nevertheless, Doncic and the Mavs need to change their ways in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, as nothing they’ve done in the first three games of the series has delivered them to a victory.
