After 13 years in the Bay, All-Star shooter Klay Thompson is set to play for the Dallas Mavericks later this year. Before his imminent debut, the Splash Brother has a message that will excite his fans after making his signing as a Mav official.
Just recently, the Mavericks officially acquired the five-time All-Star in a historic six-team sign-and-trade deal. This marks the first time such a complex transaction has taken place in NBA history.
Under the terms of the agreement, the four-time champion signed a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks. The Golden State Warriors, who Thompson spent the first 13 years of his career with, will receive Buddy Hield from the Charlotte Hornets as part of the deal. The other teams involved are the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
During his tenure with the Warriors, Thompson was a key member of four championship teams and made five All-Star teams. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
The Mavericks are hoping Thompson’s arrival, along with the continued development of Luka Doncic, will help them take the next step after reaching the NBA Finals last season. For the Warriors, the trade represents a changing of the guard as they look to retool around Stephen Curry with new pieces like Hield.
Klay Thompson Releases Exciting for Dallas Mavericks Fans After Official Signing
Although his first game as a Maverick is still months away, fans are still looking forward to Thompson’s debut with the team. In a post by Noah Weber on X, the Splash Brother has sent out a message and a first look of him wearing a Dallas jersey.

Thompson is going to bring an impressive NBA resume to the Mavericks. Over 13 seasons, he averaged 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, while shooting an elite 41% from three-point range. His excellent free throw efficiency, making 92% of his attempts last season, and his record-setting performance against the Chicago Bulls in 2018 further bolstered his credentials as a worthy addition to Dallas’ roster.
It remains to be seen how Thompson will fit into the backcourt of Doncic and Kyrie Irving. If his past 13 years in the league is an indication, the Splash Brother would fit in just fine with the defending Western Conference champions.
