The Dallas Mavericks have invested a lot of money in Klay Thompson. This came out to the tune of a $50-million contract for three years, which will take up a substantial portion of the Mavs’ salary cap for the foreseeable future.
Based on a viral video that is now making its rounds on social media, it appears that Dallas may have just made a major mistake.
Dallas Mavericks News: Klay Thompson Video Circulating Online

A 48-second video of Thompson playing pick-up basketball with some random dudes is currently blowing up on X, formerly Twitter. In it, the five-time All-Star is shown struggling on both ends of the floor. So much so, that the caption of the clip even labeled the 34-year-old as “washed.”
Klay’s washed even vs randoms 😭😭😭 pic.twitter.com/qK03OyqSIa

Instead of jumping on the hate bandwagon, however, most of the viewers were quick to come to Thompson’s defense. The general reaction was that it’s unfair to judge Klay based on an edited clip that fails to tell the whole story.
Lowlights reels can make a good player look like Thanasis, and Thanasis can look like a good player in a highlights reel

It’s funny how everyone calling him washed but 3 weeks ago everyone wanted him on the team as a shooter?

Klay had 45 points in this pickup game 🤣 he only missed 5 shots the entire game. This is a video of the 5 shots he missed. Where are the 18 he made??

Who films people’s pickup game bricks for social media? Lol
— Franklin (@franklinisbored) July 15, 2024
Klay cannot create his own shot.. he has to come off screens or just get open.. but that’s nothing new
— Shawn Carter (@lawrencehansbro) July 15, 2024
crazy what editing can do I saw a clip where he hit every shot… if you're playing all day you are going to have some misses. he'll be great in dallas because he's probably the best 3rd option open shooter in the league

While there are those who called out the Mavs for a supposedly colossal mistake in signing Thompson, the general majority turned their ire on the source of the video.

The account that posted this “lowlights” clip was probably hoping to get his followers to agree with his notion of Thompson being a washed old guy. If this assumption is correct, then I guess it’s safe to say that the clout-chasing attempt backfired pretty badly.
