The Dallas Mavericks duo of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis should been the franchise’s future, especially with the combined talent of the two European hoopers. Now, the Slovenian guard reveals why his partnership with the Latvian big man didn’t really work out.
Back during the 2018-19 season, Porzingis found himself sidelined for the entire year after suffering an ACL injury. Halfway through that campaign, the Latvian All-Star and a second round pick were traded to the Mavericks for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans.

The wisdom behind that move was to pair a talented big who can create for himself, shoot from deep, and protect the paint with Doncic. Instead, Porzingis missed a huge chunk of games that could have allowed the duo to play more on the court. Plus, that envisioned fit never really materialized into playoff success for the European duo.
Nevertheless, Porzingis still posted respectable numbers whenever he was healthy on the court. Over the course of two-and-a-half seasons, the former New York Knicks star averaged 20.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game.
Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic Reveals Why Partnership With Kristaps Porzingis Didn’t Work Out

Ahead of the NBA Finals, Doncic finally came out and revealed why his pairing with Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis didn’t really work out. In a tweet Lando Thomas posted on X:
“Luka Dončić on why it didn’t work with Kristaps Porziņģis: “I don’t really know. I don’t know why it didn’t work out. We were still both young. We tried to make it work, but it just didn’t work. So moved on,” Thomas tweeted.
Although Porzingis’ health has always come in question throughout the season, the Latvian center is still a difference maker for the Celtics. Over the course of 57 games, he averaged 20.1 points on 37 percent shooting from deep, 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game.

After almost missing out the entire playoffs, Porzingis is set to return to action in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Hopefully, fans will get a kick to see the two former teammates slug it out on the court.
