After months of speculation, Klay Thompson has finally left the Golden State Warriors and signed with the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent. Among all the other teams in the league, there’s a reason why the Splash Brother joined Luka Doncic and company.
Thompson was drafted 11th overall by Golden State in 2011 after a successful college career at Washington State. With the Warriors, he quickly emerged as one of the league’s elite shooters, forming the Splash Brothers duo with All-Star guard Stephen Curry.
In 2015, Thompson helped the Warriors win their first NBA championship since 1975. The following season, he and Curry set a new record for most combined three-pointers in a season. While GSW lost in the 2016 Finals, they bounced back to win the title in 2017 and 2018, with Thompson playing a crucial role.
In the 2019 Finals, Thompson suffered a devastating ACL tear that kept him out for over two and a half years. After a lengthy rehabilitation, he made his return in the 2021-22 season and helped the Dubs win their fourth championship.
Throughout his career, the All-Star shooter has been recognized as one of the greatest three-point shooters in NBA history. He is a five-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA Third Team selection, and NBA All-Defensive Second Team honoree. Thompson has also won gold medals with the U.S. national team at the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics.
The Real Reason Why Klay Thompson Signed Up With the Dallas Mavericks
Before joining the Mavericks, Thompson was rumored with different teams, such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic. In a video shared by Oh Yes He Did on X, NBA Insider Chris Haynes detailed the reason why he signed up in Dallas.

Last season, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. He also connected 43 percent of his shots from the field, 38 percent from downtown, and 92 percent from the free throw line.
Although his production has dropped, Thompson can still space the floor and hit the timely shot from deep for the Mavericks. If all things work out, the former GSW star may help Dallas reach the promised land in the playoffs next year.
