Dallas Mavericks fans are still seething at the three-team deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis and Max Christie, and team owner Patrick Dumont recently broke his silence.

Speaking during a conference in Texas, Dumont said the Luka Doncic trade allowed the Dallas Mavericks to improve in the short and long term.
“Tough decisions are never easy. Part of leadership is looking at risk, all the factors in a decision, being willing to act at that time, and look to the long term, not only thinking about the short term and how it may be received immediately. Think about the long-term benefits and what it may allow you to achieve if given all the right considerations,” Dumont explained.

“This was a decision about the future. If you look at our roster today and who we have, we feel like we positioned ourselves to be incredibly competitive against the best teams in the NBA. If you’re a fan of basketball, you have Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, Anthony Davis, and either Daniel Gafford or Dereck Lively as your starting five. That’s going to put fear into a lot of teams if we can get going,” he added.
Dallas Mavericks in a dire situation since the Luka Doncic trade
The Dallas Mavericks’ 2024-25 season is in shambles since the Luka Doncic trade. Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving were added to the team’s lengthy injury list, with the latter declared out for the rest of the campaign.

Dallas are in danger of missing the playoffs after making it to the NBA Finals last season. They are 10th in the ultra-tough Western Conference at 33-34.
The team has only seven players available. Dallas lost six of their last seven matches, so you can understand why fans are frustrated.
