PJ Washington knows what Klay Thompson is capable of, so he was excited when the Dallas Mavericks acquired the Golden State Warriors legend via a sign-and-trade.

As he talked to the local reporters on Tuesday, Washington said that Thompson’s veteran leadership and experience will help the Dallas Mavericks gear up for another deep playoff run next season.
“I think it’s great. I think he brings a lot to our team, a lot of leadership. Obviously, he’s been at the top of the mountain for a while, so I think it’s great he’s on our team and gives us some knowledge as well too,” Washington said about Thompson via Kevin Gray Jr. on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Dallas Mavericks are coming off an NBA Finals run, where they lost to the Boston Celtics in five games. They could’ve used Klay Thompson in the series, as he would’ve improved their spacing on the offensive end.
Klay Thompson is a big addition for the Dallas Mavericks
Klay Thompson comes to Dallas with a huge chip on his shoulder since he is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career. In 2023-24, the 34-year-old guard averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game on 43.2 percent shooting from the field.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Thompson is expected to start as a small forward, playing many minutes in the starting unit alongside Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, Dereck Lively II, and PJ Washington.
Besides acquiring Klay Thompson, the Dallas Mavericks signed Spencer Dinwiddie, Quentin Grimes, and Naji Marshall to shore up their depth.
