The Dallas Mavericks know something has to change if they want to keep their hopes of a second NBA championship alive.
While Kyrie Irving shared an inspired message to the fans ahead of Game 3, the stats show that the Boston Celtics heavily outclassed the Mavs. Jason Kidd needs to change up his approach as the Finals makes its way to the American Airlines Center for the first time since 2011.

While it’s true that Uncle Drew needs to step up his game, one analyst made a bold claim that would make the Dallas Mavericks improve their series instantly. However, it’s one that had plenty of fans scratching their heads.
Michael Wilbon believes Tim Hardaway Jr. can help the Dallas Mavericks win against the Boston Celtics

Michael Wilbon was covering the second game of the NBA Finals between the Mavericks and the Celtics, which the C’s handily won 105-98. It was clear throughout the game that the Mavs were struggling to get any sort of offense going as Luka Doncic was the only one making his shots.
Wilbon suggested that Jason Kidd should tap into Tim Hardaway Jr. as a possible third star to ease the pressure on Luka and Kyrie. He argues that the long-time Maverick has what it takes to produce instant offense during high-pressure situations.
Dallas needs somebody else. Luka can’t be himself physically, not the way this game is starting. I’m gonna nominate somebody: Tim Hardaway Jr., a veteran player who’s been in big games. Wasn’t he a DNP in the first half? Can’t happen. So if we’re going to pick somebody to help out, Tim Hardaway Jr. can get hot, and be important and be a factor in these games.
Wilbon is most likely making the argument based on Hardaway’s regular-season performance. He tallied an impressive 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists on 40.2% shooting and 35.3% from deep through 79 games.

However, it’s also been clear through the past two rounds that Hardaway wasn’t really a part of Kidd’s game plan. He’s only averaging 7.7 minutes a game in the Western Conference Finals and the Finals. His status as a defensive liability isn’t letting the Mavs have him on the floor for long periods.
While many are clowning on Wilbon for his hot take, it may be time for Kidd to make the daring change. The Dallas Mavericks badly need a change, and a bit of THJ may be what the doctor ordered.
