The Dallas Mavericks pulled off one of the most questionable trades in NBA history over the weekend. They traded their franchise star Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis, and many fans around the league are shook.
As great and generational as Luka Doncic is, Anthony Davis isn’t too far behind. Davis is posting 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.1 blocks per game this season.
This was not a lopsided trade as people are making it out to be. This was a win-win trade for both the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.
Why It’s A Win For The Lakers
Luka Doncic, of course. His career averages include 28.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists. These numbers are not common, and he’s proven to be a hall of fame player already.

Doncic is only 25-years-old and that’s major for a Lakers team that’s preparing to be without LeBron James. The plan is for Luka to be there for the next decade, and Rob Pelinka will continue to try to build a great team around him.
He led the Mavs to the NBA Finals last season, and that shows how he can lead a team. Also, being around LeBron will be a huge help in terms of his development as a player.
Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris being in the deal also adds some depth to a Lakers team that needs help in the front court.
Why It’s A Win For The Mavericks
For the Lakers, it’s a win trade due to the long-term aspect. For Dallas, it’s the win-now aspect that matters.
Anthony Davis is a proven winner that will add elite scoring and defense to a Mavs team that desperately needs it.

The addition of Davis will make a perfect starting five that fits perfectly with one another, and will be an issue for opposing teams.
Kyrie Irving will be back manning the point guard position. Klay Thompson will be back at shooting guard. PJ Washington will be at small forward. Anthony Davis will be at his true power forward position. Lastly, Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively will be holding down the center spot.
Max Christie is another player who will contribute solid minutes to an already deep Dallas rotation as well.
As long as Dallas can remain healthy, they will continue to be a problem in the loaded Western Conference.
The Aftermath
Luka and AD are both injured at the moment, but will return to play soon. Once they get their reps in with their new teams, NBA fans will see if this was truly a win-win trade.
