When it rains, it pours. That is how life is like for Damian Lillard right now as he bagged another major achievement after his Milwaukee Bucks won the Emirates NBA Cup on Tuesday.
Aside from the $500,000 cash prize, which he said will go to the Bucks staff, Lillard recently became just the fourth active NBA player to have a lifetime shoe deal.
NBA Insider Shams Charania reported that Lillard has decided to renew his contract with top basketball shoe brand Adidas with end of term being “never”.
The eight-time All-Star signed a lifetime deal with Adidas which trusted him 10 years ago when he was just on his third year by signing him to a 10-year contract.
The 10-year deal is worth $100 million. It is not known how much his lifetime deal is worth.
Dame has been one of the top and most loyal endorsers of Adidas. He currently has nine signature shoes with the German brand, with the latest one called Dame 9 released on February this year.
Damian Lillard joins 3 other active NBA players with lifetime shoe deals
With this development, Lillard now joins an elite list of active NBA players with lifetime shoe deals.
First among them is Lebron James who has been with Nike for more than 20 years going back to his high school days.
Kevin Durant is also a lifetime partner by Nike after signing the agreement on August last year.
Another MVP that has a lifetime partnership with a shoe brand is Stephen Curry with Under Armour. This is said to be among the richest contracts in sports history as the Golden State Warriors star will receive annual base pay, stock equity, royalties on signature products and on-court incentive bonuses.
The late Kobe Bryant also has a lifetime deal with Nike. Allen Iverson is among the firsts to get the same type of deal after getting it from Reebok in 2001 wherein he will receive $800,000 yearly as well as a $32 million trust fund.
