The Sacramento Kings got themselves a new weapon by taking DeMar DeRozan during the offseason. However, it continues to be lacking for NBA executives, who are disgruntled with DeRozan’s performance.
Per ESPN’s Tim Bontemps’ discussion with NBA executives, DeMar DeRozan’s style on the court is “clunky” with his star teammates Domantas Sabonis and D’Aaron Fox. The trio, expected to bring the Kings to higher levels, proved inefficient with their team’s low standing.
One anonymous executive from the Western Conference said:
“He is who he is. What he does takes away from what both Fox and Sabonis do because they tend to operate in the same areas on the court.”
Another executive raised DeMar DeRozan’s teams because of his seemingly unfortunate plays. After he departed from Toronto in 2018, DeRozan only experienced two playoff stints in San Antonio and Chicago, albeit all losses in the first round.
“DeRozan is a highly skilled player who is great to have in the locker room and a guy who you want to give the ball to at the end of a game. But his play hasn’t driven winning, and it’s something that unfortunately has been the case throughout his career and it’s part of why he’s changed teams a bunch,” one executive added.

DeMar DeRozan averages 22.7 points and 4.2 assists and rebounds each throughout the season. He scored 23 points, two assists, and three rebounds in his team’s recent victory against the San Antonio Spurs.
The Kings persist at the 12th spot in the West with an 11-13 standing. Their next game will be against the Utah Jazz on December 9.
DeMar DeRozan expresses honest reaction amid bad record
DeMar DeRozan and the Sacramento Kings’ crucial losses in his past games thwarted the expectations of many. Despite their struggling record, DeRozan remains optimistic about its results
In his interview with James Ham, “Deebo” expressed disappointment over his losses, bringing up the case of having cold starts during the season.
“I mean, it’s always frustrating when you lose, but I think it’s all about how you build character from this and come out of it,” DeRozan said.
“Everybody has those rough patches throughout the season at some point, and we’re just there. We’ve dealt with injuries early on, you know, when we were trying to get a rhythm and everything.”
However, DeRozan believed his team would bounce back and achieve better standings through experiencing rough stints.
“It’s frustrating losing, but there’s a lot you can learn from it. There’s a lot of character within that can be built from this, that can give you the competitive nature to come out of this even better,” DeRozan added.
DeMar DeRozan and the Kings is filled with star players, although they struggle with their dynamics. However, their recent massive victory against the Spurs proved they still have a chance for the playoffs.
