DeMarcus Cousins had an unfortunate record in his twelve years playing for different teams in the NBA. The only notable achievement he got was four All-Star appearances. Sadly, there’s nothing more to that on Cousins, even amidst playing for different teams, notably the Sacramento Kings.
Cousins recalled all the events he experienced at the Kings, notably how they made futile attempts to enhance their roster.
In a podcast with former teammate Draymond Green, the Kentucky Wildcats’ alumnus gave his honest reaction regarding the said event.
“It was tough and it was confusing.”
The two-time All-NBA Second Team member also remembered when he was still a rookie at Sacramento. One of his teammates back then was Fransisco Garcia. The Dominican player felt neglected because his team focused more on Cousins than on him and the others.
However, his perceptions of the 2010 SEC Player of the Year changed when he left for the Houston Rockets. Cousins particularly recalled their conversation with Garcia.
“Man, I remember that day I called you spoiled. He was like, I was wrong, we were in a sh*thole.”
Cousins would eventually leave Sacramento Kings in 2017. He then switched teams almost every year. In fact, the Kings had never qualified for the playoffs in the four-time NBA All-Star’s years with the team.
He went to New Orleans, Golden State, Houston, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and eventually Denver in 2022. The highest he got in his NBA career was with the Warriors, where they fought the Toronto Raptors in the 2018–19 season. Even here, Cousins never won a championship.
DeMarcus Cousins: Delving into his career outside the NBA.
When Cousins was in his final years in the American pro basketball league with the Denver Nuggets, he made an early exit in the first round of the playoffs after being defeated by the Golden State Warriors, his former team. After that, the 2016 Olympian Gold Medalist decided that it was his time to switch basketball leagues.
Cousins went to Puerto Rico first, playing for the Mets de Guaynabo. However, the team proved incapable of advancing to the finals. The Mobilian was also injured at that time. Before the start of 2024, he signed with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League.
Finally, Cousins had his first championship in his basketball career. He was also named the 2024 T1 Finals MVP and the Most Popular Player of the Year. He then played in The Asian Tournament.
Cousins had no more plans to make a comeback in the NBA, preferring to stay in the Asian basketball leagues. Currently, he is playing for the Zamboanga Valientes, a Philippine-based team.
