Aaron Gordon had a solid season for the Denver Nuggets, but their season ended early after the Minnesota Timberwolves took them down in the second round of the series.
While the result was disappointing, nothing would have prepared him for the sudden loss of his brother.
Drew Gordon, who played nine games for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014/15 season, passed away in a tragic car accident at only 33 years old. The sudden loss of his brother adds a painful sting to what some may consider a decent campaign from the forward.
During this difficult time for Gordon’s family, the NBA community gathered together and expressed their condolences for the sudden loss.
NBA fans and reporters share messages of condolence to Denver Nuggets’ Aaron Gordon
The Spun’s Matt Hladik reported that the NBA community quickly banded to share supportive messages to the forward:
“Aaron Gordon is Nuggets family. We mourn with you. Prayers to You AG and Your Family,” said one Nuggets fan account.
“Oh no…this is awful, awful news. So many prayers to Aaron Gordon and his family,” added Nuggets reporter/analyst Chris Dempsey.
“WOW. RIP, Drew. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aaron Gordon and his family,” an Orlando Magic fan account said.
“Prayers up for Aaron Gordon. I can’t imagine the pain he’s going through right now. If Drew was anything like his brother he would’ve been a kind and good man, and excellent teammate,” chimed in a Memphis Grizzlies fan.
The elder Gordon averaged 1.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.2 assists on 42.0% shooting during his stint in Philly. Since then, he’s plied his trade in the G League, Serbia, Slovenia, and a number of other countries across the globe.
Meanwhile, Aaron was a key contributor for the Denver Nuggets this season. This year’s postseason was his best as a pro after averaging career highs in points per game (14.3), rebounds per game (7.3), and assists per game (4.4). He also notched postseason highs in field goal percentage (58.5%), three-point shooting (40.7%), and free throws (82.1%).
Everyone at Hardwood Heroics extends their sincere condolences to Aaron and the Gordon family.
