Denver Nuggets GM Calvin Booth is already preparing for the possibility of the team losing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope this summer.

“I think we have to look at everything, and the nature of free agency: he’s unrestricted, so we can try to bring him back, but if he doesn’t want to come back or chooses to go somewhere else, that’s his prerogative,” Booth said during a recent press conference via Mile High Sports’ Ryan Blackburn.
“But I think we’re prepared to plug-and-play so to speak. Christian Braun is one of the best net-rating guys in the league, as is KCP. If (Braun) is to step into the starting lineup like probably projected, I think we’ll be okay if KCP doesn’t return,” he added.

According to Shams Charania and Tony Jones of The Athletic, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is set to test the open market this offseason after declining his $15.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season.
Why the Denver Nuggets are likely to lose Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
In a perfect world, the Denver Nuggets could re-sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to a new extension because he is valuable to the team, with his ability to defend and shoot from outside. The 31-year-old has won two NBA titles, including last season with the Denver Nuggets.

The Denver Nuggets could keep Kentavious Caldwell-Pope because they have his Bird Rights, but that will put the team over the second apron, which will present challenges to their roster building moving forward.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is one of the best role players in the league, with career averages of 11.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and 36.9 from three-point range, so he is expected to be coveted by various teams that could give him a huge payday.
