The Denver Nuggets have agreed to terms with Jamal Murray on a four-year, $208 million maximum contract extension to extend his stay in the Mile High.
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks and Adrian Wojnarowski, Murray will reportedly receive $244 million guaranteed over the next five years. After getting $46.4 million in 2025-26, the 27-year-old guard will see his yearly salary increase up to $57.5 million in 2028-29, the final year of his newly signed deal.
The Denver Nuggets drafted Jamal Murray with the No. 7 pick in 2016. He has become a franchise cornerstone in the past few seasons, and he helped the team win its first NBA championship in 2022-23.
Gilbert Arenas on why extending Jamal Murray is the right move for the Denver Nuggets
Before re-upping Jamal Murray, the Denver Nuggets were having a subpar offseason, as they lost Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Jackson to free agency, with Dario Saric and Russell Westbrook as their replacements.
According to Gilbert Arenas, Murray’s new extension is a steal because the Denver Nuggets locked down one of the best closers in the NBA alongside Nikola Jokic.
“When you think about his career, he made no All-Star games? He was not an All-NBA player? That’s crazy. A guy that has so much and he does so much for the team and he doesn’t get the accolades and awards. So, this is cheap for what they get, right? You have a guaranteed closer. He hits big shots,” Arena declared.
He could have easily been signing $305 million to $325 million. No one was going to say that was too much for him. For $208 million? Y’all stole one,” he added.
