Denver Nuggets’ Russell Westbrook Rejects Claims of #0 Jersey Controversy with New Teammate

The Denver Nuggets know they need help if they’re going to return to the NBA Finals. This knowledge pushed them to make a move for Russell Westbrook to reinforce the squad.

The interest was mutual as the two-time MVP also made moves to make the acquisition possible. However, not everyone is thrilled with the move, with one analyst even saying getting a guard who cannot shoot and relied heavily on his athleticism might be a bad move for the squad.

However, the contract is signed, and Brodie is going to spend a good chunk of the season at the Mile High City. It’s now up to Mike Malone, the coaching staff, and the rest of the Nuggets roster to make sure Westbrook fits in with what they’re doing on offense and defense.

While Westbrook hasn’t played a single minute of Nuggets basketball, he’s already embroiled in an issue involving his teammate over a jersey number.

Plenty of social media posts went viral over the past couple of days claiming Westbrook tried getting #0 from Christian Braun, with the latter not giving way for the nine-time All-Star.

However, the newly minted Nugget denied ever making such a request on his Instagram story, per Denver 7’s Landon Haaf:

“[Braun] and I never discussed him passing along the number 0,” his post read. “I didn’t want, inquire about, or request the number 0 because I chose to mark this new change with a ‘new’ number.”

“The excitement of the new season has already begun, and unfortunately I know that means the offload of many false stories.”

It’s a good move for Westbrook to clear the air about the jersey issue because he wanted to start his run with his new team on the right foot. Going out of his way to clear the air is a great way for him to win some brownie points with the organization.

Westbrook will not only provide great basketball, but also leadership and experience to the Nuggets. He performed well last season for the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. Denver Nuggets fans will be hoping for more of the same this year.
