The Denver Nuggets will have two of the NBA’s all-time triple-double leaders, Russell Westbrook and Nikola Jokic, on the same team next season. Westbrook is at the top of the list with 199 triple-doubles, while Jokic is fourth with 130.
Russell Westbrook and Nikola Jokic need to have the ball to be at their best, so it’ll be interesting to see how they’ll fit when they share the court as teammates next season.
During the Denver Nuggets’ media day, a reporter asked Russell Westbrook to discuss a potential triple-double “race” between him and his new star teammate, and the nine-time NBA All-Star brushed off the idea.
“No, we have not,” Westbrook said. “And, I don’t know if there’s a race or not, but we have not talked about it at all. Nikola is the best player in the world, and he’s playing at the highest level. All we care about, and he’ll probably tell you the same, is winning basketball games. That’s it.”
“You want to be able to be on a team with somebody that’s literally unguardable, and I’m grateful to be on this team,” he added.
Russell Westbrook will play with a chip on his shoulder with the Denver Nuggets
Russell Westbrook is coming off his worst regular season in his NBA career, only averaging 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.1 steals in 68 regular season games and coming mostly off the bench for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2023-24.
Westbrook, a career 30.4 percent three-point shooter, has been working on his outside shot this summer but has earned mixed reviews from fans and analysts.
He will likely play behind Jamal Murray, who occupies the starting point guard position. However, don’t be surprised if head coach Michael Malone plays them together in spurts next season to give their opponents a different look.
