It’s no secret that NBA legends like Russell Westbrook have experienced the highest highs, and some of the lowest lows, but it is very rare for a superstar to turn back the clock. People were quick to write off Westbrook after his time with the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, but it seems as if he has rewritten the narrative because he is absolutely balling with the Denver Nuggets.
Russell Westbrook’s New Beginning in the Mile-High City
After Westbrook had been on many teams, fans, and organizations had speculations that he could not adapt to modern NBA offenses and that he was not a good fit wherever he went. But the Denver Nuggets, fresh off their championship run, saw potential in Westbrook’s skill set and veteran presence. Joining a roster led by reigning MVP Nikola Jokić, Westbrook embraced a complementary role, prioritizing team success over individual accolades.
As of January 2025, Westbrook is averaging an impressive 17.9 points, 8 assists, and 7.7 rebounds per game. We can now see that his shooting has improved a lot in field goals and behind the arc. Age is also not a factor, he continues to push the pace on the court with the young guys, attacks the basket, and is playing solid defense against top talent.
Coach Mike Malone said “Russ has brought a level of energy and leadership that’s contagious,” “He’s playing with a chip on his shoulder, and it’s been a joy to watch.”
Westbrook and Nikola are a great pair
Westbrook’s comeback shows his determination. Many players might have given up on their careers after facing criticism. Instead, Westbrook put in the work to improve his game. He focused on making better decisions, choosing good shots, and increasing his defensive effort.
Now, playing with the reigning MVP, you can see how well they work together on the court. Jokic consistently makes the right plays, while Westbrook shares his experience with younger players.
Even though Westbrook’s MVP years are in the past, his time with the Nuggets shows he still has a lot to contribute. His strong performances are vital for Denver’s successful season, helping them stand out as contenders in a tough Western Conference.
