Recently, the Chicago Bulls announced their decision to retire Derrick Rose’s jersey, which had the entire NBA world in their feelings, including Rose’s wife, Alaina Rose. Rose played with the Chicago Bulls for eight seasons and created history in the NBA when he became the youngest MVP ever when he was 22 years old.
In the next NBA season, the Bulls will raise Derrick Rose’s jersey to the rafters, after the legendary point guard officially retired from the game on 26th September 2024. The Chicago Bulls also paid tribute to their retired star through a ceremony on ‘Derrick Rose Night’.
“IN THEM RAFTERS!!!!!” Alaina Rose captioned the post on her Instagram.
While Derrick Rose has always been known as a Chicago Bulls star, he ended his career playing for the Memphis Grizzlies. In his final year of the game, Rose managed to achieve a 17.4 points average, grabbing 3.2 rebounds in each game, while assisting 5.2 times per matchup.
For the Chicago Bulls, Rose played a total of 406 games. In his eight years with Chicago, Rose averaged 19.7 points in each game, with 3.7 boards and 6.2 helpers in every matchup played. After Michael Jordan left the Bulls, it was Derrick Rose who increased Chicago’s stature and rankings in the NBA.
Derrick Rose Not Interested In Statue of Honor, Like Dwayne Wade
When Dwayne Wade retired, the Miami Heat created a statue of honor for him and set it up outside their area. Similarly, many Chicago Bulls fans hinted that the team might create a statue of honor for their star, Derrick Rose when he retired. Rose was asked about this in an interview which discussed his retirement from the game, and the move by the Bulls to retire his jersey.
However, Rose did not seem interested in having a statue of himself set up by the Chicago Bulls. Still, Rose’s teammates felt that he certainly deserved a statue to be erected in his honor after his retirement. Rose discussed this and many more things in the interview with Shams Charania from ESPN in the flower shop that he set up for one day.
Rose’s No. 1 jersey has actually been worn by other players, including Michael Carter-Williams back in 2016. But he soon changed his mind after fans created a backlash against him wearing the number. Anthony Morrow also tried to wear the same jersey the very next year but also had to change his jersey number after fans trolled him.
