DiJonai Carrington Talks About Her Dallas Wings Trade Experience
DiJonai Carrington was acquired by the Dallas Wings in a four-team trade involving the Connecticut Sun, Phoenix Mercury, and Indiana Fever. The trade, finalized in February 2025, saw the Wings receive Carrington, Tyasha Harris, NaLyssa Smith, the reserved rights to Mikiah Herbert Harrigan, the No. 12 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, and future draft pick swaps. In exchange, Dallas sent Satou Sabally, Kalani Brown, and Sevgi Uzun to the Phoenix Mercury, Jacy Sheldon to the Connecticut Sun, and Jaelyn Brown to the Indiana Fever.

During the recent press conference by the Dallas Wings launching their new players, Carrington reflected on her experience going through the trade, something she admitted she “is not iin control” of.
“I was a restricted free agent, so I wasn’t in complete control. But the cards fell how they did, and God got a plan. And I know that this is where I’m supposed to be. So, I mean, we’re all here,” she said.“Everything is meant to be how it is. So, I’m just excited.”
Carrington, the reigning WNBA Most Improved Player and a member of the 2024 All-Defensive First Team, was traded as part of the Sun’s roster overhaul under new head coach Rachid Meziane. The Sun aimed to rebuild their team after losing several key players to free agency and trades. Carrington’s departure was influenced by the Sun’s decision to prioritize younger talent and future draft assets.

For Dallas, the trade was an opportunity to reunite Carrington with General Manager Curt Miller and Head Coach Chris Koclanes, both of whom had worked with her during their time with the Sun.
The Wings benefited from DiJonai Carrington’s defensive skills and career-high averages of 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.6 steals.
