DiJonai Carrington, Dallas Wings guard, recently put out a tweet about salaries that brought about mixed reactions. Carrington remarked that the ongoing debate between salaries in the WNBA and the NCAA has been going on for far too long and that players should instead focus on making more money through endorsements.
Carrington has definitely been in the WNBA long enough to come up with an offbeat solution such as this. The 27-year-old has been in the WNBA since 2021, playing for the Connecticut Sun, after being selected by the team as the 20th overall pick in the second round of the draft. In the upcoming season which will kick off next month, Carrington will be playing for the Dallas Wings, along with her girlfriend NaLyssa Smith.
“This $$$ narrative with the W vs. NCAA is sooooooo tired. YES(!!!) we should (and WILL) get paid much higher salaries BUT you can still make that same $$, it’s just no longer called NIL money … it’s called endorsements. Sent with love,” DiJonai Carrington tweeted through her X account.
DiJonai Carrington’s comments about the salaries in the WNBA and the NCAA come at a time when more and more female basketball players are complaining about not being paid well-enough when compared to male basketball players. However, there has been no resolution on this matter, but hopes have been turning up. Perhaps future generations of WNBA players can expect a better pay parity.

DiJonai Carrington And Angel Reese Threaten To Boycott WNBA
This is not the first time that DiJonai Carrington has criticized the issue of poor salaries for female basketball players. A few weeks back, Carrington and Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese went on record to announce that they might consider a strike if the collective bargaining agreement negotiations don’t turn out the way that they wish.

This conversation between Angel Reese and Dijonai Carrington occurred during one of Reese’s podcast episodes on ‘Unapologetically Angel’. Reese has also previously complained that her WNBA salary is not enough to even cover her rent. As a result of their poor pay from the WNBA, players have had to resort to other means to make more money, for example, NIL deals.

Carrington herself has managed to collaborate with a number of brands, including Rihanna’s lingerie brand, Savage x Fenty, and even Kim Kardashian’s underwear brand, Skims. Carrington fans can look forward to her playing on the hardwood floor in the upcoming WNBA season next month.
