President Donald Trump is serving his second term, and several candidates are already vying for his position. Surprisingly, ESPN journalist Stephen A. Smith is among many who want to run for the US presidency. Smith mentioned that he’s going to run for the elections in 2028, after Trump finishes his second term.
It turns out that Smith was pretty serious with his claims, and he’s going to give it his best. Trump, on the other hand, said that he would love to see him run for the Presidency. The President joined the News Nation show with Chris Cuomo and Bill O’Reilly. When asked about Smith’s plan to run for the Presidency, Trump said he would love to watch him go.
“I love watching him. He’s got great entertainment skills, which is very important. People watch him. I’ve been pretty good at picking people and picking candidates, and I will tell you, I’d love to see him run,” Donald Trump said.

Stephen A. Smith never dismissed the idea of running for president. The ESPN sports journalist mentioned that he’s leaving all doors open for other possibilities.
“Time to stop messing around. Life is great. Especially at ESPN/Disney. Hate the thought of being a politician. But sick of this mess. So I’m officially leaving all doors open.” Smith said.

Stephen A. Smith Gets Criticized For Letting Donald Trump’s False Claims Slide
The ESPN journalist was criticized for letting the President’s false claims slide. Smith faced criticism for not challenging Donald Trump on multiple false claims related to Black Americans and historically Black colleges.

Rather than addressing the claim, Smith moved on to ask about HBCU funding. Trump claimed he had saved HBCUs during his presidency and insisted that all HBCU presidents support him. While there was no substantial proof at the moment, Smith never bothered to argue or ask questions like he always does.
Multiple critics mentioned that Smith missed a crucial opportunity to fact-check Donald Trump in real-time. Smith’s silence during the exchange has reignited discussions about the responsibility of public figures to confront falsehoods, especially when they pertain to marginalized communities.

It already seems like the Smith is taking a step towards running for the presidential elections next term. ESPN agreed to a new contract for Smith, which is worth $100 million. That said, he has the possibility to explore other opportunities, including politics.
