President Donald Trump is once again in hot water—this time over ICE-led immigration crackdowns in California that sparked major protests across Los Angeles starting June 6. The federal response has drawn criticism nationwide, and now, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is adding his voice to the conversation.
Never one to shy away from political issues, Kerr sounded off on Donald Trump’s decision to send in National Guard troops and Marines to control the protests. Speaking with The San Francisco Standard on Wednesday, Kerr called the move classic Trump politics.
“So this is obviously just a classic page out of Trump’s playbook: Create a crisis in order to look like you’re solving it, using it as a political win, creating further divide,” Kerr said. “It’s so disappointing that we don’t have a president that’s actually focused on uniting us.”
Kerr, who’s been a consistent critic of the former and current president, also took issue with Donald Trump overriding California Governor Gavin Newsom—highlighting that National Guard deployments are traditionally initiated by state leaders.
“Peaceful protest is one of the sacred rights in our country,” he added. “The protests themselves are as American as apple pie as long as they don’t turn violent.”

During the 2024 campaign, Kerr openly endorsed Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention and even mimicked Steph Curry’s iconic “night night” celebration while urging voters to “put Trump to sleep” in November. But with Trump securing a second term, Kerr’s words now echo with more urgency.
“Donald Trump Really Wants to Kill Sports for the Rest of Us”: Karen Russell Speaks Out
As the FIFA Club World Cup gears up in Miami this weekend, the controversy continues. President Trump has reportedly deployed ICE and CBP agents to oversee security at the event, prompting backlash over what critics are calling excessive and discriminatory tactics.

According to former UN diplomat Olga Nesterova, non-citizens attending the tournament must carry proof of legal status—raising alarms about racial profiling and surveillance at what’s supposed to be a global celebration of sport.

“In so many ways, Trump really wants to kill sports for the rest of us. Is it because it’s inspirational and unites us? Is it because of the Blacks? Is it because he sucks at sports and gets booed at events? Not at that wrestling st. The good sports that have brought so many of us joy lately! I can tell you one thing—we’re gonna fight back. Just like this big, beautiful Bill!”**
