Donald Trump believes that WNBA star Caitlin Clark should have a higher salary in the league due to her contributions to popularizing women’s basketball. Clark and other players in the league have notably lower wages than those in the NBA due to their lower acclaim to the fans.
Since Caitlin Clark’s entry into the Indiana Fever, she boosted the league’s attention, setting records for ticket sales and TV viewership. She also had many endorsements with Nike, Gatorade, and many more. Her “effect” continues to reach more fans who want to see her play.
During his guest appearance at the “Let’s Go” podcast, Trump recognized these events Caitlin Clark had made. He even compared the Fever point guard to Tiger Woods, who popularized the also once-unpopular golf.
“It’s unusual. Tiger (Woods) when he first went out, remember those days? Or just a great baseball player in the minor leagues or a first-year football player,” Trump said.
Trump, along with the podcast hosts Bill Belichick and Jim Gray, also discussed the possibility of increasing the salaries of every player in the WNBA due to Clark’s growing popularity. However, the former US president considers this possibility as more complex.
“Maybe they’ll have to change that. But it is based on the one player. It seems to be. It’s sort of incredible. It’s a phenomenal thing she’s got going. But very tricky. When you start getting involved with trying to recreate markets, it gets very, very tricky. I mean, the downside is, is greater than the upside.”
Caitlin Clark acquired $76,535 in her first season at the WNBA with a four-year contract worth $338,056. The league’s highest salary so far, $241,984, belongs to three players, one of whom is Kahleah Copper.
Caitlin Clark shares thoughts on new coach
Caitlin Clark awaits the leadership under new head coach Stephanie White, who was re-hired by the Indiana Fever after Christie Sides’ dismissal. Clark believes that White already has plans to bring out the best in her new players and achieve better results on the court.
Via ESPN’s Women Hoops, Caitlin Clark gave her honest remarks about working with White, looking forward to working with her:
“I felt like her teams always had the best scouts against us … She clearly was on to something. Hopefully, in turn, now that she knows how to stop us, that should be a good way to know how to [help us] beat certain things as well,”

During her first tenure with the Fever, White brought the team to the WNBA Finals but lost in a close series. She continued to be a promising coach in the Connecticut Sun, reaching a high standing last season before leaving the team.
