Stephen A. Smith talked about President Donald Trump’s viral moment during a debate against Hillary Clinton in 2016.
In one of his recent videos, Stephen A. Smith recalled the 2016 issue of Hillary Clinton and her “deleted emails,” and how Donald Trump criticized her for it.
“And I only bring that up because since Trump is about law and order, since he is about competence, since he is about transparency, since he is about all of these things, what’s up with your peeps? What’s up with, you know, Christy Gnomes? That’s not a fire offense. She’s looking at Secret Service. How you let somebody snatch a pocketbook? But in the case of Pete Hegseth, to find out that his wife and his brother, no national security clearance there, was a part of these communications.”
“Now, the White House is calling it fake news. These reports are saying they’re looking to replace him. According to everybody that I’ve spoken to, because I’ve cultivated a few sources in Washington over the past few months.”
Smith’s criticism was in light of the issue surrounding Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and his mishandling of military operations information. Hegseth faced significant backlash for using the Signal messaging app to share sensitive military information. Reports revealed that he discussed details of U.S. airstrikes in Yemen in two separate Signal group chats, one of which included his wife, brother, and personal lawyer.

How Donald Trump Blasted Hillary Clinton Over “Deleted Emails”
The controversy surrounding Hillary Clinton’s deleted emails became a central issue during the 2016 presidential election, with Donald Trump using it to criticize her integrity and judgment. Clinton faced scrutiny for using a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State, which led to the deletion of 33,000 emails that she claimed were personal.
Critics argued that this violated federal record-keeping laws, and the FBI investigated the matter, ultimately concluding that Clinton’s actions were careless but not criminal.

Trump capitalized on the controversy, repeatedly accusing Clinton of attempting to cover up wrongdoing and pledging to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate her if elected. During debates and rallies, he referred to the email scandal as evidence of Clinton’s untrustworthiness, coining phrases like “Lock her up” that became rallying cries for his supporters.

The issue played a significant role in shaping public perception of Clinton and contributed to the polarized nature of the election, with some considering the issue as part of the factors that won Donald Trump the election.
