The tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump are “ridiculous.” At least, this is what sports analyst and commentator Stephen A. Smith thinks, in light of the huge backlash the initiative of the president has faced.
In an interview with ABC News, Stephen A. Smith got honest about his take on the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, which he called “ridiculous.”
“I don’t like what I’m seeing, but I’m not surprised. I mean, this whole tariff war situation is utterly ridiculous. I mean, my attitude was, is that he should have immediately targeted China and not every nation on the planet, for crying out loud, just throwing tariffs at everybody.”
“Ultimately, he dialed that back, as we saw over the last few days, and folks on the right are up in arms. Basically, I should say — I mean positively, essentially saying that that was the plan all along.”
“There doesn’t appear to be a plan, he added. “Let’s be, let’s be very, very clear about that. It seems to be a bit very haphazard, and you know it’s just thrown against the wall to see what will stick.”
Stephen A. Smith made headlines this past week by revealing that he is considering a run for president in 2028. While he emphasized that he is not a politician and has never desired to be one, he acknowledged the possibility of stepping into the political arena if he believes he can make a meaningful difference.

Donald Trump Faces Backlash Over Tarriffs Imposed
The tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump have faced widespread backlash from global leaders and economic experts, who argue that the measures disrupt international trade and harm economic growth. Countries like China and the European Union have condemned the tariffs, calling them unilateral and damaging to global supply chains.

The tariffs have caused significant losses in the stock market, with major indices like the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and NASDAQ experiencing sharp declines. Asian and European markets also suffered, with Japan’s Nikkei index dropping 4% and Germany’s DAX falling nearly 2.5%.

In response to the backlash, Donald Trump announced a temporary pause on the tariffs for countries that had not retaliated. This move aimed to ease tensions and stabilize the markets, although it raised questions about the administration’s strategy and consistency.
While some praised the reversal as a tactical decision, others criticized President Donald Trump for creating uncertainty and undermining trust in U.S. trade policies.
