President Donald Trump has been widely criticized for the tariffs he imposed, with a lot of people, from economic analysts to ordinary folks, commenting on what they believe to be the impact of this on their lives.
In a recent interview, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert gave her honest thoughts on how she thinks these economic and political policies imposed by Donald Trump could have a ripple effect that would eventually reach the league.
“I’m not worried this year, but certainly, as we go forward, if we were to enter into a deep recession of some sort, then you start to look at scenarios and contingency plans around that,” Engelbert said about the potential impact of Trump’s tariffs to the league in the coming years.
In early April 2025, President Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs on imports from over 70 countries, labeling the move as “Liberation Day” for American trade. The tariffs included a baseline 10% levy on all imports, with higher rates imposed on key trading partners like China and the European Union.
However, the decision triggered immediate backlash from global markets, with stocks plummeting and bond yields dropping as investors reacted to the uncertainty. The backlash was swift and widespread, with critics accusing Trump of undermining economic diplomacy and destabilizing international trade.

Facing mounting pressure, Trump backtracked on his tariff policy just days later, announcing a 90-day pause on increased levies for most countries. While maintaining the baseline 10% tariff, he softened his stance, citing concerns about market instability and the need for flexibility.
WNBA Coach Criticizes Donald Trump Over Stand on Transgender
Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve, in a previous statement, blasted Trump for his “executive and legislative attacks” on transgender people.
She said in a statement: “On this transgender visibility day, a time of escalating executive and legislative attacks attempting to deny healthcare, education, and basic freedoms; a time of epidemic violence, particularly against black and brown trans women—we celebrate trans and non-binary people everywhere. You are seen and loved.”

Trump has taken a firm stance against transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, signing an executive order titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” in February 20252. The order enforces strict policies based on biological sex, with schools and organizations facing penalties for noncompliance.

Donald Trump recently attended UFC 314 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, where he received a standing ovation from the crowd. He was seated cageside alongside notable figures like Elon Musk and UFC CEO Dana White, emphasizing his long-standing ties to the UFC organization.
