Cleveland Cavalier shooting guard Donovan Mitchell shared his faceTime moment with MLB star Juan Soto as news of the latter’s massive and historic contract with the New York Mets broke the internet.
In a record-shattering deal, Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets for a 15-year contract for $765 million. This broke all records not only in terms of MLB deals but also for all contracts in the world of sports.
Mitchel took to X to show his FaceTime moment with Soto, which he captions with “LFFFGGGMMMMMM,” tagging Soto in the post.

For comparison, the largest contract in NBA history is currently held by Jayson Tatum, and his five-year contract with the Boston Celtics is worth $314 million. However, this contract is not set to take effect until the 2025-2026 season, which makes Jaylen Brown’s Celtics extension contract at $303 million still technically the highest-value official contract in the NBA.
In NFL, the biggest contract is currently the one between quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansan City Chiefs. His contract with the Chiefs has a staggering value of $450 million for ten years.
In MLB, the spot for the biggest contract was previously held by Shohei Ohtani and his deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The deal was worth $700 million for ten years. This was also previously the biggest athlete contract in the history of sports.
Juan Soto began his career with the Washington Nationals in 2018 and played for the franchise until 2022 when he moved to the San Diego Padres, and the New York Knicks in 2024. He’s the 2019 World Series champion and a four-time MLB All-Star.
Donovan Mitchell and His Deep-Rooted Connection to the Mets
Cleveland is almost 500 miles away from New York, but that doesn’t mean that Donovan Mitchell cannot be a New York Mets fan. In fact, more than just a fan, Mitchell’s connection to the Mets runs deep, rooted all the way to his father’s connection to the team way back during the 90s.
Donovan’s father, Donovan Mitchell Sr., was a minor league coach and manager under the New York Mets in 1999 and became the senior director of diversity, equity and inclusion, and player relations in 2021.
The young Mitchell grew up around the Mets, and although he eventually pursued a professional career in basketball, he still did not lose his heart for baseball, and for the Mets.
In the NBA, Donovan Mitchell began his career in 2017 with the Utah Jazz and eventually moved to the Cavs in 2022.
