Draymond Green has been instrumental in getting the Golden State Warriors four NBA championships and despite his antics, his voice is being heard by the management. This is proven when the four-time NBA All-Star revealed how he was able to have his opinion on a recent trade that the front office is about to do.
2022 was the last time the Golden State Warriors were able to win an NBA championship and this team is still looking to win another before the Steph Curry era is over. Age is also starting to chase Green, and the Warriors are not opting to re-sign Klay Thompson.
Change is inevitable for Golden State, and it was made clear that they are willing to move pieces. In a recent interview on Jeff Teague’s podcast ‘Club 520’, Green said there was a trade that was supposed to happen but expressed his honest opinion about it.
“We was about to make trades last week and I told them straight up, ‘That trade help me. It’ll help me right now in my career these last couple of years with Steph. But I’ve always spoken to y’all from a place for what’s best in this organization. I won’t stop now. That’s a bad trade. Don’t do that trade.'” said Green on the podcast. “I disagree with it, although it’s gonna help me right now.”
Draymond Green wants to go home to Michigan if he gets traded by the Golden State Warriors
At 34 years old, Green has played his entire NBA career with the Warriors and is now on his last years in the league. Knowing that he himself can be traded by the front office soon, the four-time NBA champion hopes to be traded to the Detroit Pistons.
“I pray to God if (the Warriors) ever feel the need to get rid of me, at least send me somewhere,” said Green. “If they’re going to send me to any, like, nonwinning organization, then send me to Detroit. It’s the crib– I’d much rather it’d be Detroit than Charlotte. I hope I don’t go anywhere.”
The Detroit Pistons are quite an interesting choice for Green since he comes from a winning culture in Golden State. Tracing back to Greeen’s roots in Saginaw, Michigan, the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year, grew up watching Ben Wallace’s Pistons win the championship in 2004.
Entering the 2024-2024 NBA season, Green is guaranteed $54.5 million for two more years with the Warriors. He also have a $30 million player option by the 2024-27 season.
