Draymond Green isn’t ashamed to express his thoughts. The four-time NBA champion recently shared his opinion on the upcoming US presidential elections, supporting the recently nominated Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris. The outspoken star also clapped back at critics who have questioned Harris’ campaign leading up to the election.
On the recent episode of his YouTube podcast “The Draymond Green Show,” the Golden State Warrior gave his take on Harris’ race and gender being a topic of discussion.
“To not only have a woman in the running—we’ve seen it once with Hillary—but a black woman, it’s crazy,” said Green. “And no, [we’re] not going to do the whole thing ‘she ain’t this, she’s not African-American.’ Stop it.
“Because you used ‘black’ against her and she had to rise above that to become who she became. [We’re] not going to now use ‘black’ against her when it’s convenient to try to tear her down. I won’t roll like that. So you damned if you do, you damned if you don’t.”
Last week, former president and Republican nominee Donald Trump questioned Kamala Harris’ racial background at the National Association of Black Journalists.
“I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn black and now she wants to be known as black,” Trump said.
Born in Oakland, California, to a black Jamaican father and an Indian mother, Kamala Harris became the first black Asian-American female vice president in the United States’ history in 2021. If she wins in November, she will be America’s first-ever female president.
Draymond Green says Kamala Harris inspires his daughters
Draymond Green, father to three girls, spoke of his admiration for Kamala Harris in the same podcast episode. He believes Harris’ ascent to the political ladder has given his daughter hope and inspiration.
“Your path for a young black girl to see, ‘Wow, I can run for President.’ That’s amazing,” said Green. “That’s incredible to give that hope to young black, brown girls around the world that you could possibly run for president one day too.”
Green concluded his episode by wishing the current vice president of the United States of America all the best in her presidential campaign.
The 34-year-old Green, who was selected 35th overall by the Warriors in 2012, has been with the Warriors since then. He is a four-time NBA All-Star and was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 for his defensive tenacity.
