Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green plans to make a scene on Team France in its upcoming gold medal match against Team USA at the Paris Olympics. The Tokyo gold medalist, in particular, strikes against Rudy Gobert, the center of the French and Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA.
Green has his insights on the finals rematch between France and America in his podcast with studio analyst Baron Davis.
“I’m going. No, straight up, I’m going. I need to talk to Rudy Gobert. I’m this close to wearing both of my gold medals.”
The four-time NBA champion is determined to spectate the grand game while scheming some tricks against the European team. He’s even more confident that Team USA will get the gold medal, just like in the past Olympics.
Green once played for the USA’s men’s basketball team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. There, he had played against Rudy Gobert in the grand finals. Team USA only led by five points at the end, but they secured a gold medal.
In Paris, the French center is still in the lineup for his national team, while Green was omitted from Team USA’s roster for Paris.
The guest, Davis, also joked to Green that if he visits the French in their home court on Sunday, he better sit behind them. For the former Hornet, it would be very effective and “epic.”
Just recently, Green also made a particular strike against Gobert. He taunted the three-time NBA All-Star’s exit during France’s semifinal match against Canada because of surgery on his finger.
The former Jazz player played only five minutes in the next game against Germany. He has never scored a point in the past two games.
The rivalry between Green and Gobert isn’t new. In fact, it started in the NBA. During a match between the Warriors and the Timberwolves, the Dubs’ power forward hardly choked the French centerman.
As a result, Green was suspended for five matches. In his defense, he said he was defending his teammate from an earlier confrontation.
Draymond Green’s Olympic experience
Even though he wasn’t included in the current national roster, the 34-year-old forward has already won two gold medals at the Olympics. Meanwhile, Gobert has yet to achieve one. However, he got a silver medal at the last Olympics and played against Green.
Team USA and France will face each other again at the finals. The Europeans will decide whether to finally break the USA’s Olympic championship streak.
