On New Year’s Eve, the No. 4 ranked Duke Blue Devils routed the Virginia Tech Hokies 88-65 for their seventh straight victory.
Potential number one pick in the 2025 NBA Draft Cooper Flagg led the way 24 points and 6 assists. Duke’s Tyrese Proctor and Kon Knueppel each scored 13 while Sion James finished with 10 points.
Duke Finding A Way
After struggling from 3 point land most of the season, Duke drained 11 of them versus Virginia Tech. The Blue Devils also shot 53.4% from the field and 66.7% in the second half versus the Hokies.
Defensively, the Blue Devils have been stellar this season. They are the 2nd ranked team in the nation in defensive efficiency. They only allow a staggering 58.5 points per game. With these numbers, Virginia Tech exceeded expectations today, but still weren’t enough for Duke’s dominance.
Cooper Flagg was an absolute thief today and recorded four crucial steals. His defense this season is a big reason why he most likely will be the first pick in the NBA Draft.
Duke had 33 rebounds to Virginia Tech’s 21, and they’ve have been known for dominating the glass all season. Guard Sion James led in rebounding today with eleven boards, something he’s been able to do as of late.
“They have one of the best defensive teams I’ve played against in my six years,” said Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young.
Pure Domination
The Blue Devils are first in the Atlantic Coast Conference with an 11-2 overall record. In conference-only play, they are a dominant 3-0. Teams shouldn’t want to see Duke in their home of Cameron Indoor Stadium. They are 8-0 at home and ready to take out any team that enters.
Led by superstar talent Cooper Flagg, this Duke team will be hard to stop, especially come tournament time. They are very deep and able to compete with anyone in college basketball.
