The Duke Blue Devils’ recently lost to the Kansas Jayhawks as Cooper Flagg failed to make an impact for the former. In turn, sports analyst Skip Bayless dropped one piece of handy advice for the prospective number one pick in next year’s NBA Draft.
Just recently, the top-ranked Jayhawks narrowly defeated the No. 11 Blue Devils with a score of 75-72. The game was marked by intense moments, including the ejection of Kansas star center Hunter Dickinson, who was sent off for a flagrant-2 foul after a controversial kick to Maliq Brown. Despite his absence, Kansas managed to hold on for the victory, improving their record to 6-0.
Dajuan Harris led the Jayhawks with 14 points, showcasing his ability to step up when needed. Zeke Mayo added 12 points, while both Dickinson and AJ Storr contributed 11 points each before Dickinson’s ejection shifted the dynamics of the game. The Blue Devils, driven by Tyrese Proctor’s 15 points, struggled to capitalize on Kansas’s misfortune, with Flagg finishing with 13 points.
Flagg’s performance was a focal point, especially after Dickinson’s departure. Initially quiet, Flagg found his rhythm in the latter stages of the match, delivering crucial plays that kept the Blue Devils competitive. However, missed opportunities during the final minutes prevented them from securing a comeback. Notably, Kon Knueppel had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer but missed a three-point attempt, sealing the Blue Devils’ fate.
Skip Bayless Drops One Piece of Advice for Cooper Flagg After Duke Blue Devils’ Loss to Kansas Jayhawks
Flagg’s subpar performance has led to several reactions from fans and critics. Among those who shared their thoughts was Bayless, as seen in a tweet he posted on his official X account.
“COOPER FLAGG NEEDS TO BE LESS UNSELFISH AND MORE AGGRESSIVE AND DUKE HAS TO RUN MORE PLAYS FOR HIM AND FEATURE HIM. YES, KANSAS BLITZED HIM. BUT TWO SHOTS AND TWO POINTS? COME ON. HE’S BY FAR THE BEST PLAYER ON THE FLOOR,” the sports analyst tweeted.
Flagg faced high expectations during Duke’s recent matchup against Kansas, but he struggled to make a significant impact, finishing with only 13 points. Despite his impressive athleticism and skill, the forward’s performance was overshadowed by missed opportunities, particularly in crunch time when he didn’t receive the ball during critical possessions.
His unselfish play, while commendable, raised questions about his aggressiveness on the court. As the season progresses, Flagg will need to adapt and assert himself more effectively to fulfill the potential that has many predicting a bright future in basketball.
