Noah Lyles is now the fastest man in the world. The Olympic sprinter won the gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the Paris Olympics on Sunday. His official record is 9.784 seconds, just five-thousandth of a second faster than silver placer Kishane Thompson of Jamaica (9.789).
The Olympic world is buzzing after Lyles’ win, but so is the NBA. Former Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade was among those who were ecstatic about the Olympic victory.
The three-time NBA champion was impressed by Lyles’ performance in the race. Wade reposted a picture of the Olympic gold medalist holding his name tag after the win.
“HE’S HIM!!” said D-Wade’s caption on X.
In addition to Wade, other NBA personalities who congratulated Lyles after his win include New York Knicks star Josh Hart and Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson.
Noah Lyles is a ‘world champion’
Noah Lyles had previously called himself the fastest man in the world, and proved exactly that last Sunday when he won the gold medal in the 100-meter dash.
The race was one of the closest contests in the Olympics. Lyles and Thompson finished almost at the same time, but Lyles ultimately won by a hair’s breadth.
Lyles also previously won gold in the men’s 100 meters at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. At that time, outspoken athlete said that NBA champions can’t call themselves “world champions,” a statement that enraged some NBA players and fans alike.
“You know the thing that hurts me the most?” he said. “I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their heads. World champion of what? The United States?”
His remarks, while generally irking the NBA community, did receive some support from a few players in the league.
Lyles cleared some things up with his sentiment. “Don’t get me wrong. I love the US at times. But that ain’t the world. That is not the world—WE are the world.”
Dwyane Wade’s wife Gabrielle Union can’t wait for more of Noah Lyles’ trash talk
The NBA world was abuzz with the news of Noah Lyles’ Olympic achievement, although it was in a different tone. And Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade’s wife, knows all about it.
The actress reposted on her Instagram story CNN’s report on X about Lyles’ historic achievement. Her caption for the story suggests she’s anticipating the trash talk that would come from the gold medalist.
“I cannot wait for the [expletive] this man will be talking! Oh they gonna be BIG mad,” her caption said.
Union’s excitement also carried over to X with another post. She also replied to former All-Conference offensive lineman Kyron Samuels’ post that said Lyle’s performance was “generational.”
“The level of pure joy I have in my heart. Wheeeewww bayBEEEEE he walked it like he talked it,” she said.
Still on X, Mrs. Wade reacted to NBC Olympics’ post showing a clip of Lyles talking to the camera.
“My new ringtone.” she wrote.
