The coaching carousel for college basketball is in full swing as Selection Sunday approaches this weekend. The NCAA Tournament begins next week, and teams are fighting for their seeding this week.
The Big Ten Tournament is having their quarterfinal round being played on Friday. No. 23 Oregon is going against No. 7 Michigan State, No. 18 Wisconsin will play UCLA, No. 24 Illinois plays No. 11 Maryland, and No. 20 Purdue plays No. 22 Michigan.
Iowa’s college basketball coach was dismissed

The Fighting Illini advanced to the quarterfinal round by defeating Iowa 106-94 in the second round.
Per Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello of ESPN, the Hawkeyes are set to dismiss head coach Fran McCaffrey following the loss on Thursday. He was ejected from the game.
“Iowa is set to dismiss head coach Fran McCaffery after 15 seasons, sources told ESPN on Friday,” the ESPN article reads. An official announcement could come as early as this afternoon. He’s the school’s all-time wins leaders with 297.
“Iowa’s season ended on Thursday with a 106-94 loss to Illinois in the second round of the Big Ten tournament, with McCaffery getting ejected in the second half after being assessed two technical fouls for arguing with the officials.”
Iowa finished the season with a 17-16 overall record a 7-13 record in conference play.
There were suspicions McCaffery could retire after the season. However, the coach said he planned to continue his profession.
Fran McCaffery led Iowa to seven NCAA Tournament appearances

McCaffery played for Wake Forrest and Penn as a point guard. He took over head coaching duties at Iowa in 2010. He went 297-206 with the Hawkeyes, leading the program to seven NCAA Tournament appearances.
McCaffery is 548-383 as a college head coach. He coached for Lehigh starting in 1985, UNC Greensboro, and Siena before accepting the job with Iowa. He’s made 12 NCAA appearances as head coach. His last came in 2023.
