On Thursday, Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies took on the Sacramento Kings to capture their 15th win of the 2024-25 NBA season. Because of a full team effort, the Grizzlies won 115-110. Multiple players ended the game with double digits in points, which became key in their game.
The backcourt of Marcus Smart and Desmond Bane led all scorers as they both had 18 points. Smart came off the bench and had a 50% shooting performance from deep, while Bane had an all-around game with eight rebounds and seven assists.
However, their standout point guard’s on-court performance wasn’t the finest. Ja Morant played almost 28 minutes and had eight points on 15.4% shooting from the field. While the two-time All-Star didn’t have the best game, he was issued a second technical foul during the fourth quarter and was ejected from the game.
Even though he wasn’t in during the last quarter, the Grizzlies found a way to beat the Kings.
For Memphis, seven players scored at least 10 points. Their passing game was highlighted as they finished with 27 assists as a team. The Grizzlies also made the most of the plays during the open floor with 22 fastbreak points. The Kings, on the other hand, only had nine fastbreak points.
This was their first game against each other this season. Their last game against each other was last season on March 18, 2024. The Kings took home a 121-111 win over the Grizzlies behind the huge double-double of Domantas Sabonis, who had 25 points and 18 rebounds.
Fans react to Ja Morant’s ejection during the game
During the fourth quarter, Ja Morant defended Kings forward DeMar DeRozan. While Morant did his best to avoid drawing a foul on the star, DeRozan was in a post-up position and attempted a midrange shot. But according to the referees, who blew the whistle, the Grizzlies star touched the offensive player.
Morant was visibly upset and had an animated reaction to the foul call. He pointed at one of the game officials and had some words. After that, he was whistled for his second technical foul, garnering reactions from fans.
“Games gotten so soft man,” one fan said. “Refs call so much weak s**t.”
“When Ja catches the ref after the game,” another fan joked.
