In one post on social media platform X, ESPN reporter Alexa Philippou reported that LSU star Flau’Jae Johnson is considering declaring for the 2025 WNBA draft, but her decision would ultimately be dependent on the direction of her talk with one person.
Philippou wrote: “Flau’jae Johnson said she’s still thinking about whether to come back to LSU next season or declare for the WNBA draft. She is going to talk to Kim Mulkey and her family before making her decision. She is eligible for the 2025 draft as she turns 22 this calendar year.”

As a junior, Johnson still has the option to play one more year for the Tigers. At the same time, she is also already eligible to commit to this season’s WNBA draft.
To be eligible for the WNBA Draft, an NCAA player must be either a graduating senior or turn 22 years old in the same calendar year. They must also renounce any remaining NCAA eligibility to participate. International players, on the other hand, must turn 20 years old in the calendar year of the draft and meet the league’s definition of an international player, such as being born and residing outside the United States.
Flau’Jae Johnson meets all the criteria.

Despite the collective team effort and excellent performance from Flau’Jae Johnson, the LSU Tigers still failed to advance to the Final Four, and indeed their dreams of another champion after a defeat by the UCLA Bruins.

In such times, Johnson credited her faith as her go-to place.
“That’s who I ran to when stuff got hard,” she said. “When I went to God, I was able to open up to my teammates. I was able to open up to coach [Kim] Mulkey and I thought I became a better person. I really became a leader and that’s who I am at heart.”
While the loss was painful, especially since she and the Tigers have been chasing another championship. Still, Johnson finds positivity in this downtime.
“I think there’s a lot to be learned from this,” Johnson said. “[I’m] definitely going to sit back and learn but [I] just gained so much perspective from this year. It was beautiful.”

Flau’Jae Johnson has had an impressive season with the LSU Tigers. She averaged 18.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game across 33 games. Her scoring ability has been a highlight, with a career-high 27 points, which she achieved twice this season.
