Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has hinted at his eventual retirement from basketball. However, the Warriors are still trying to build a championship roster around their star to keep their competitiveness even if Curry is at the twilight years of his career.
Unlike most stars, Curry has remained loyal with the team that drafted him. The 10-time All-Star started his career in 2009 and have been fruitful with the organization. While his retirement is uncertain, Curry is aware that his time is close.
The Warriors have also struggled to contend since winning the championship in 2022. The team’s inability to win in recent years could play a significant role in his future with Golden State. Former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins appeared as a guest on “Run It Back” in Tuesday and said that it would be difficult to see Curry play for a different team.
“For me personally, I don’t want to see him in another jersey,” Cousins said. “It was hard enough seeing Klay [Thompson] in another jersey. To see Steph in another one.”
One of the hosts and former player Lou Williams predicts the Warriors will go all-in and build a championship roster around Curry to prevent him from departing the franchise.
“It’s not a world where Steph Curry goes somewhere else, if anything, they will build up the Monstars around him and give him one more hurrah,” Williams said. “Kind like they did for Kobe. He asked for a trade and boom, they bring in all the tools he need, he go get another championship. I see that before they ever even entertain the idea of Steph Curry or even allowing him to sniff out another team at all.”

Stephen Curry knows his time in the league is almost up
Stephen Curry has been in the league for 16 seasons and has shown signs of Father Time. This season, Curry is averaging the fewest points since the 2019-20 season with 22.5 points. He’s also had a few low scoring games throughout the campaign.
In an interview with ESPN’s Tim Keown, Curry is aware that he won’t be able to stay competitive for long.
“I want to do this for as long as I can,” Curry says. “But the clock’s ticking. We all know that.”
