In this modern era of basketball, every NBA team needs a reliable shooter to space the floor and add another layer to the offense. In this regard, former Phoenix Suns shooting guard Landry Shamet is garnering interest from multiple teams after he became an unrestricted free agent recently.
Shamet was selected 26th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2018 NBA Draft after a successful college career at Wichita State. He had a strong first season, highlighted by setting the franchise record for most 3-pointers made by a rookie with eight in a game against the Washington Wizards.
In 2019, Shamet was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers and made an immediate impact with his new team, by scoring 17 points in his Clippers debut, including 13 in the fourth quarter to help the team overcome a 28-point deficit against the Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics.
After one season with the Clippers, Shamet joined the Brooklyn Nets for the 2020-21 season. He continued to be a reliable three-point shooter, knocking down over 40% of his attempts. In 2021, Shamet was traded to the Phoenix Suns, where he played for the next two seasons.
Most recently, in 2023, Shamet signed with the Washington Wizards as a free agent. Throughout his NBA career, Shamet has established himself as a high-level perimeter shooter and valuable 3-and-D player, earning a spot on the 2019 NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
Former Phoenix Suns Shooter Landry Shamet Drawing Interest From Multiple NBA Teams
While most of the big names are off the board, Shamet is still available in free agency this year. In a tweet by Michael Scotto on X, the former Phoenix Suns guard is being targeted by multiple teams in the league.
“Landry Shamet has cleared waivers and is now an unrestricted free agent, league sources told @hoopshype. Shamet has shot 38.4 percent from 3-point range in his career and has several interested suitors,” Scotto tweeted.
Over the course of his six-year career, Shamet has averaged 8.7 points on 38 percent shooting from beyond the arc, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. His knack for draining long-range bombs and spacing the floor may come in handy for teams like LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers, Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, and Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks, among others.
It remains to be seen where Shamet will end up after the offseason is over. In any case, he won’t be out of work for long, especially with all of the positives he brings to the table.
