Georgetown Hoyas head coach Ed Cooley apologized for his vulgar comments, which were assumed to be towards Hoyas player Jayden Epps’s former team, the University of Illinois Fighting Illini.
In a post-game press conference following their win against the St. Francis Red Flash, Georgetown head coach Ed Cooley touched on the progress of their team’s guard Jayden Epps. Cooley praised how Epps has developed as a player, particularly when it comes to his defensive skills. However, his praise also came with a comment that included vulgarity that many deemed was uncalled for.
“I’ve also seen a growth in Jayden,” Cooley told reporters during the press conference. “I talked to him yesterday in practice, I talked to him today before the game. His development defensively, I mean, it’s almost like he’s a new player. It’s something I saw in him his freshman year when he played for that other bulls–t school.”

Cooley was quick to add a disclaimer for his unexpected comment.
“I’m pretty sure that (comment) will make national news when I say that,” he added. “But I never said what school it was.”
However, only less than an hour later, Cooley made a public apology through his X account.
“My comment today was said in jest with one of my players, but I admit it was a poor choice of words,” he posted. “I have the utmost respect for the University of Illinois, its men’s basketball program, coaches and players.”
Illinois coach Underwood, when asked about the bulgar comment from Cooley, said that was something “not even worth wasting my time on.”
“That’s not even worth wasting my time on,” he said. “I don’t know what he was referencing that about. Jayden had a productive freshman year here. But I’m not getting what about all that. I’ll let our fans and everybody else have fun with that,” Underwood said, trying to keep things peaceful on his side.
Georgetown Extinguishes St. Francis Red Flash 82-65
Following their win against the Red Flash, coach Ed Cooley congratulated his team and showed appreciation for the Red Flash, which he called “a well-coached team.”
The victory was led by Micah Peavy, who dominated the game as he contributed 24 points for the team. Jayden Epps followed through with his 23 points on the board, while Malick Mack did 11 points overall.
The game reached halftime with a close 37-36 on the board, but thanks to the combined efforts of the trio of Peavy, Epps, and Malick, Georgetown pished the gap further, and St. Francis was not able to catch up. Their combination of a strong defense and aggressive offense made the overwhelming win possible.
Georgetown is set to host Wagner in their next game on Tuesday, November 26.
