Gilbert Arenas, former point guard for the Golden State Warriors, had some golden words to say about Bronny James’ future career. In a recent episode of ‘Gil’s Arena’ podcast, the veteran was heard drawing similarities between Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, and Caitlin Clark. Furthermore, Arenas also expected young James to draw attention to the G-League.
The G-League is the NBA’s official minor league, and aims to prepare players and coaches for the NBA. In addition to this, the G-League is also the NBA’s research and development lab, and started out formally in the 2001-02 season. This Thursday, it was confirmed that Bronny James will be assigned to LA’s G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
Sham Charania, from ESPN, confirmed that Bronny James can be expected to only play home games for the South Bay Lakers as of now. This special treatment of James has inspired discussions among many sports reporters and analysts, with many criticizing the decision. Gilbert Arena’s podcast covered this topic as well.
Co-host Brandon Jennings asked Arenas about his opinion on the fact that Bronny James would be playing only home games, and if it is right that the player should be getting so much special treatment. In response to this, Gilbert pointed out that Bronny James is indeed LeBron James’ son, and that he is also ‘Bronny James’, citing that the player has already created a unique brand for himself in the league.
“Because my daddy LeBron James, that’s one,” Arenas stated. “Two, I’m Bronny James… ‘First of all, I’m coming to this arena, it is being filled up because of me.’ This kid is like Caitlin Clark.”
“You can be mad or you won’t, but you was playing in 5,000 arenas. That was 20,000, so you’re 20 points a game is in 15,000 more people’s eyes… He has the light. The light comes from people who want to see him succeed and then there’s light from people who wanna see him fail.”

Arenas further went on to highlight that the arena is definitely going to be filled up with fans who are eager to see Bronny James in action. Gil additionally compared Bronny James to Caitlin Clark, who also grew up in the basketball spotlight. Caitlin Clark has also often been at the receiving end of special treatment by the league, according to certain sports reporters and analysts.
Bronny James Gets Assessed By Icon Charles Barkley
Bronny James being assigned to the South Bay Lakers was well-appreciated by numerous patrons of the game, including NBA icon Charles Barkley. On ‘The Dan Patrick Show’, Barkley discussed James’ recent career move, supporting it and also adding that the young player requires more playing time.
Barkley also stated that he firmly believes Bronny James is right where he needs to be in the G-League. In the G-League, James can hone his skills as per Barkley, rather than sitting on the bench. While Bronny James did indeed do well at USC, his move to the G-League has been applauded by numerous NBA veterans in the hope that the young prodigy can train better there.
