Stephen Curry’s influence isn’t limited to the world of basketball. In fact, it even struck a rising tennis star. Olympic silver medalist Carlos Alcaraz recently expressed praise for the Warriors guard. He seeks to follow in the NBA player’s footsteps and win many championships in his sport.
In an interview with ESPN, the Spanish tennis pro player revealed his admiration for the four-time NBA champion.
“I’ve watched Steph Curry play in real life… I’m trying to do the same things as he’s doing in the basketball court, but it is difficult. Probably same games, same feelings that we try to put joy on games.”
Alcaraz is currently playing in the US Open. The 2022 world no. 1 tennis player seeks his third Grand Slam championship this year. He recently won the first two, the French Open and Wimbledon.
The current world’s three tennis player has also played in the recent Olympics, losing against Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the finals.
Lately, the two-time NBA scoring champion’s enhancing legacy drives Alcaraz to do the same in tennis: win the current US Open. If the young tennis player succeeds, he’ll be one of only two people who’ll get all champions in three Grand Slams in a year.
If this happens, Alcaraz would be as unique in tennis as Curry in basketball. Both have achieved lasting legacies in their respective sport. However, the journey would be challenging. After all, the ten-time NBA All-Star’s path to being an NBA legend was challenged by rivals.
The Spaniard’s inspiration, meanwhile, had won his first gold medal for Team USA in men’s basketball. The 2022 NBA Finals MVP dominated the court for his team, particularly in their close matches with the European powerhouses Teams Serbia and France.
Throughout the Olympiad, Stephen Curry averaged 14.8 points, 2.5 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in six games. His most significant performance was in the semifinal match against the Serbians, where he fired up in the fourth quarter, scoring 36 points and successfully shooting twelve out of nineteen.
Stephen Curry: Would he be able to win his fifth NBA title?
Stephen Curry will have a hard time recovering from his terrible loss last season. With the unfortunate exits of Klay Thompson and Chris Paul, the Warriors will lack more star players for the next season.
However, the team did make some efforts to replace the lost skills. An example is acquiring Buddy Hield, a sharpshooter from the deep, who can replace Thompson as Curry’s Splash Brother. Despite this, it is still uncertain if the Warriors will end up in a safer spot next season.
