The Golden State Warriors‘ Jonathan Kuminga is anticipated to be sidelined for at least three weeks as a result of a sprained right ankle. Kuminga was a brilliant player for the Warriors off the bench before his injury. He averaged 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting 35.4% from outside the arc for December.
However, his recent setback will not only affect his performance in the 2024-25 NBA season but will also take a toll on how the Warriors play. With his help, Golden State has maintained its competitiveness as the eighth seed in the Western Conference standings with an 18-16 record.
On Sunday, head coach Steve Kerr revealed his feelings about missing out on Kuminga’s presence as he recovers from injury.
“Brutal,” Kerr said. “JK’s been playing so well and obviously, he’s such a big part of what we’re doing and he’s our most athletic scorer, finisher. He’s been playing so well. It’s a tough one, we do feel good about our depth and our ability to withstand his loss. So, Kyle [Anderson], Moses [Moody]. Thoe guys will get more of an opportunity and I’m excited about that.”
“Brutal.”

Kuminga injured his ankle on Saturday’s 121-113 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies during the second quarter. The forward had a bad landing and had to leave the game with a limp. The Warriors forward underwent an MRI not long after, revealing Golden State’s player “suffered a significant lateral ankle sprain.”
“Jonathan Kuminga, who exited last night’s game with 2:27 remaining in the 2nd quarter due to a sprained right ankle, underwent an MRI earlier today. The MRI confirmed that Kuminga suffered a significant lateral ankle sprain. He will be re-evaluated in three weeks,” the Warriors reported.
Golden State Warriors “open” to trade options
Recently, the Brooklyn Nets offered guard Dennis Schroder to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for De’Anthony Melton. However, Kerr revealed that the Warriors aren’t closing on any trade options this season. The longtime coach said that the organization is content with its current roster but is still open to addressing whatever the team needs.
“I’ve talked to [GM Mike Dunleavy Jr.] about that, and I think that makes perfect sense,” Kerr said. “We’ve been up and down this year, but we like the group, we like the people we have, and we really want to see how we play over the next month and then just keep our options open.
“We’re not in a position to say, ‘Hey, we’re good enough. Let’s just stand firm.’ We have to assess all the options. … For me, it’s let’s see what we can do in these next few weeks, and hopefully we settle into this rotation, start shooting the ball better.”
